SLEEP!!! The
very sound of the word is enticing right? Hearing this gives us a surprisingly
heartwarming grin and makes us want to sleep like a baby.
Aren’t we a
clinophile in nature? Yup…Hope everyone is!
Who among
us wouldn’t want to relish the comfy of our bed?
We do say
we are sleepaholics! But how many of us fall asleep the moment we hit the bed?
Well. Not
me!
Back to those
good old golden times when I used to finish my night routine, get cozied up in
my bed, read my favourite novel and drift off to sleep with a smile on my face.
Now even
though, it is always the same old story every night. It is simply hard to fall asleep.
You hit the middle of the night, still tossing, and turning, finding a
comfortable position to sleep in. And then, finally dozing off only to be
awakened later by the sound of my alarm clock. You hit the snooze button too
many times and finally wake up feeling frustrated.
Welcome to
my club if we are on the same boat sailing in search of a good night’s sleep. Let
us together, at least on this ‘World Sleep Day,’ make a resolution to have a
proper sleep cycle and follow the routine for a better lifestyle. At the same
time on this ‘World Sleep Day’ let us all realize the importance of sleeping healthy.
Every year
on 17th March, people throughout the world celebrate ‘World Sleep Day’
to bring attention to the vital role that sleep plays in maintaining
good health. Each year, the Friday before the Spring Vernal Equinox is marked
as ‘World Sleep Day.’
Since 2008,
the ‘International Sleep Society’ has celebrated ‘World Sleep Day’ annually to
raise public awareness about the importance of sleep. One of the main goals of
this day is to help people understand the value of sleep and to reduce the
societal impact of sleep disorders through improved treatment and preventative
strategies.
The purpose
of celebrating ‘World Sleep Day’ is to bring attention to the importance of
sleep and promote healthy sleeping habits.
The theme
for this year’s ‘World Sleep Day’ is “Sleep is Essential for Health” to highlight
the fact that, just as a healthy diet and regular exercise are essential to
one's physical health, so too is a good night's sleep to one's emotional,
mental, and social wellbeing.
In this
fast-pacing era, several factors including extended hours at the office and
longer commutes, have contributed to today's more frantic pace of life. Yet, in
recent years, the significance of programs such as ‘World Sleep Day’ has
increased because of the growing recognition of the importance of getting
enough sleep to maintain consistent performance. To have a healthy sleep and follow a regular sleep routine, get to know some tips for healthy sleeping.
When it comes to sleep, the World Sleep Society says that "On March 17th, ‘World Sleep Day’, you may join hundreds of other activists and professionals in the field to spread the word about the importance of getting enough quality sleep. Together, we can do more to spread awareness about the importance of getting enough shut eye and celebrate #WorldSleepDay than any of us could do individually.” Let's together join hands and spread the awareness.
A Quick Tip to Help you Fall Asleep Quickly
Repeat the word “the”
You might
think I am going crazy! But this is a simple, effective, and proven technique.
Just repeat
the word “the” in your head once every two seconds until your unwanted annoying
thoughts disappear.
We use the word "the" because it
has no negative connotations; it is a neutral word. Saying the word
"the" repeatedly in your head breaks up the unwanted thought, because
it is quite impossible and hard to think of two thoughts at the same time.
